I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit.
Ecclesiastes 1:14
This scripture can certainly cause us to stop and evaluate our lives and our priorities. We are always searching to be content, and believe that right around the next corner there will be that "something" that will make life sweeter and better and that once we obtain it we will be content. Unfortunately the pot of gold we seek may be visible but never really found.
Solomon had it all, he was rich, wise, and powerful and honored. He had experienced a wide range of the human experience; yet came to the conclusion that the things we strive for are just not quite as important as we make them. He came to understand that all human ability is limited. This life is not our reward and what we truly seek is greater than anything in this world. The question we need to ask ourselves is what is truly important and should take precedence over our days. While we should enjoy the blessings God has bestowed upon us in this world, we also need to realize, our hearts need to be fixed on our Creator. He is the One who orders our steps and doesn't withhold anything good from us. It is in Him we find the source of our hope, the giver of peace and happiness, and the One who fills our heart with a lasting, true joy and contentment that exceeds anything in this world.
Peace to you
